About Image Format Converter
Image Format Converter is a free tool that converts images between HEIC, JPG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, GIF, SVG, and PDF entirely in your browser. Nothing you drop into it is ever uploaded — the whole conversion happens on your own device.
Who runs this site
The site is built and maintained by Pond Software, a small independent studio that makes single-purpose web tools. Image Format Converter is one of a family of focused utilities we run — each one does a single job well, with no accounts, no paywalls, and no dark patterns. If you have a question, a bug report, or a format you wish we handled, you can reach a real person on the contact page.
Why the site exists
Almost every existing image converter asks you to upload your photos to a server, wait in a queue, and trust that the file is deleted afterwards. For a holiday photo that might be fine; for a scanned document, a passport photo, or a client's product shots, it is not. We built this site around the opposite default: your files never leave your browser. The HEIC decoder, the PNG and JPG encoders, and the PDF assembly all run as WebAssembly and JavaScript on your machine, so there is nothing to upload and nothing for us to store.
That design also makes it fast — there is no round trip to a server — and it works the same whether you convert one file or drop a whole folder in at once.
How we write the guides
Alongside the converter we publish plain-English guides to the formats themselves — HEIC vs JPG, what AVIF is, and which format to pick for a given job. Our editorial approach is simple: we lead with the honest answer, even when it means telling you notto convert to the format you searched for. Every file-size figure and dimension table on the site is arithmetic or measured from the converter's own output — never an estimate we made up to fill a paragraph. If a number is not verifiable, we leave it out.
We write for the person who typed a specific query and wants the answer, not for word count. When a format is the wrong choice for your use case, we say so and point you at the better one.
How the site is funded
The converter is free and always will be. To cover hosting we run a small number of display ads and include occasional Amazon affiliate links to imaging gear that fits the same workflow. Affiliate links never change what we recommend, and the tools are fully usable if you ignore every one of them. The details are on our affiliate disclosure and privacy policy pages.
